Laptop Program FAQ

The Basics

Students in Grades 4-8 are assigned school-leased or owned Apple iBooks or MacBooks. Due to an increase in students and a decrease in available hardware, we have discontinued take-home privileges.

A fee of $85 is required of ALL students to use the equipment.  This fee covers insurance (with no family deductable) and normal depreciation, repair and replacement costs.  The insurance policy covers major damage and theft as well as liquid spills on the computers. The dropping of laptops is, unfortunately, an all too common occurrence. Hardware failures are covered by the school or Apple if the computer is still under warranty.

Students may opt to use their own Mac or PC Netbook at home. At school the students use Apple MacBooks or iBooks only as this makes it easier for the teachers to administer. Students using their own computers should have a USB flashdrive that they can use to transfer work between home and school. All class work should be done using a Microsoft Office product (Word, Excel or PowerPoint).  Students will be issued a school e-mail account with a web-based calendar that will allow them to easily switch between using different computers.

Should a family wish their child to use a family-owned Mac or PC laptop at school, please see Mr. Fulmer.  If approved (case by case), the school must have administrative access to the equipment for monitoring purposes.  This is to protect our students and ensure a homogeneous computing environment.
