Elaine Huley      EMAIL

Elaine Huley grew up in Minnesota and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Stout.  She began teaching in the public school system upon moving to Louisiana.  Elaine found her skills best utilized while also working with special needs children. 

For the past six years since moving to Washington she has worked at the Fishpond School in Bellevue.

Elaine and her husband Joe have two adult children.  Their son Braden and new daughter-in- law Sarah both serve our country in the U.S. Navy and are currently stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  Daughter Joy Mackenzie teaches in the Springfield, Missouri school system and stays active teaching dance and performing on stage.

Elaine enjoys gardening, walking the two family dogs, reading, traveling and attending their daughter’s theatre performances while visiting in Missouri.  She especially enjoys spending time with Joe and extended family at their lake home, delighting in Washington State’s beauty.

 

Madeline Butterfield     EMAIL

Madeline grew up in Washington, and graduated from WSU with her degree in Elementary Education. She has her teaching certificate for grades P-8. Madeline has taught pre-kindergarten, first and third grades before coming to St. Madeleine Sophie. Reading literacy is her passion, and she enjoys designing and teaching lessons that nurture the whole child.

In her free time, Madeline spends time with her husband Aric and two children. She is excited to continue her teaching career at our school.

Abby Ross      EMAIL

Abigail Ross heads our Primary Dept. team and teaches Kindergarten. Abby holds a Bachelors of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences and Washington State teaching certification from the University of Washington. She also holds a Masters of Education in Reading and Language Arts from Seattle Pacific University, where she currently teaches evening classes in Professional Certification to other teachers.

 

Abby has taught Kindergarten, first and third grade. She loves working with children of all ages, but especially enjoys the emerging readers and writers in kindergarten.  As a long-term parishioner, she has taught many years in the St. Madeleine Sophie Faith Formation program and has completed the Catechist Certification program through the archdiocese.

 

Abby has enjoyed raising her three children, now all out on their own.  Her two sons are students at UW, and her daughter is a student at WWU. When not with children – hers or yours – she enjoys reading, cooking, laughing with friends, and just about any water sport.

was born and raised in Seattle where she attended St. John Catholic Elementary School and Bishop Blanchet High School. She graduated this past May from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Education in Special Education and an Elementary Teaching Certification.

Laura has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. She has taught swimming lessons for the past seven years and coached swim team for the past three summers. Laura loves spending time with her family, running Greenlake, arts and crafts and cheering for her Zags!

Jessica Wehmhoefer     EMAIL

Jessica was raised in Puyallup, WA where she worked with children for several years including; three years working for Companionship, a Pierce County Parks and Recreation program, three plus years with the Boys and Girls Club and a year in Bellingham working for Rebound of Whatcom County. Jessica received her undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University in 2009 and she recently graduated from Gonzaga’s Masters in Initial Teaching program. While attending Gonzaga, Jessica worked in a 1st grade classroom and loved every minute of it!

In July 2012 Jessica married her college sweetheart and together they live with their two dogs. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking, watching movies and traveling.

Jessica is thrilled to be joining the St. Madeleine Sophie family as a 2nd grade teacher! She is excited to share her passion of learning and to work with her students!

Jessica Sewall - 3     EMAIL

Jessica was raised in Illinois and attended North Central College in Naperville, IL.  She graduated in June 2011, majoring in Elementary Education with a Reading minor. She student taught in 3rd grade and is delighted to be assuming the 3rd grade position and joining the St. Madeleine Sophie family.

Jessica is excited about having recently relocated to the Seattle area and looks forward to settling in as a resident.  Her love of teaching stems from her love of her family and friends. When not head first in a children's book (hopefully to add to her own classroom library), she can be found laughing and enjoying new opportunities.  Traveling, water/snow skiing, and pleasing others is what most brings a smile to her face.

Jessica has a passion for life and all of the individuals in it. She is grateful for this opportunity that's been presented to her and cannot wait to not only teach, but learn from her students as well.

 

 

 

 

Kristy Heline - 4     EMAIL

Kristy was born and raised in Spokane Washington where she attended Eastern Washington University and completed a bachelor degree in Cultural Anthropology.  During this time she worked with the Spokane Parks and Recreation youth programs where she was inspired to pursue her career in teaching. She was an active member of AmeriCorps in 2011, while attending Gonzaga University to complete her Master’s degree in Teaching. Recently, she relocated to the western side of the state to take on the 4th grade teaching position.

Some of her passions include time with her family, exploring outdoors, rock climbing, and walks with her dog, Daisy.

Most of all she is looking forward to engaging in the local community while kicking off her first year at St. Madeleine Sophie.

 

 

 

 

Emily Perez - 4       EMAIL

Emily grew up in Oakland, California. She attended the University of Washington for her bachelors in English. She first taught on Mercer Island before returning to California for her teaching credential. Following, she taught in the Bay Area, where she had a chance to work with students from all different backgrounds.

In February 2008, she and her husband went to Uganda in East Africa where they served for two and half years as Peace Corps Volunteers. As her primary project, Emily taught English in two high schools, teaching up to 75 students in a class at a time. She also ran a journalism club and co-led the girls’ guidance and counseling program. As a secondary project, she developed a literacy project for kindergarteners and first graders at two primary schools.

Following her time in Uganda, she and her husband traveled for a couple months around northern Africa and South East Asia before moving back to Washington. She loves to travel as well as hike, dance, run and write poetry.

Rob Boostrom - 5     EMAIL

Rob was raised in South Texas and attended Catholic schools at Saints Cyril & Methodius School and Incarnate Word Academy. He studied Political Science and Education in the Honors Program at Swarthmore College. During his college years, his love for teaching was kindled while working with the Breakthrough Collaborative in San Jose and Fort Worth.

Rob enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest, reading good books, listening to new music, and visiting friends and family. Despite relocating to Bellevue, he remains an avid fan of Texas sports.

Rob is excited to teach math and work with intermediate/middle age students again this year.

Brian Fulmer     EMAIL

Brian Fulmer was born in Pontiac and raised in Cadillac - cities in Michigan, not cars.

He is a graduate of Earlham College where he studied religion and holds a Master's Degree from the University of Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program.

Brian taught 5th and 6th grade for five years in Atlanta, GA, and spent a year working at a public access television station back in Michigan, where he did . . . everything. He has finally joined the majority of his siblings in the Fulmer migration to Washington state.

In his free time, Brian enjoys reading, camping, hiking, and fishing.

 

Jamie Tremel     EMAIL

Jamie Tremel was born and raised in Iowa. She attended Grinnell College, where she played collegiate basketball, ran track, and studied in Germany. She graduated with degrees in History and German. She worked as a nanny, for an engineering firm, and in finance before going back to school to receive her teaching certificate. During her free time, Jamie likes to read, hike, run, and travel.

Jamie has worked with students of all backgrounds and is excited to begin teaching at St. Madeleine Sophie School.

Mary Nau     EMAIL

Mrs. Mary Nau has been teaching in the Seattle Archdiocese for over 20 years, first at St. Louise, then at Eastside Catholic High School (17 years) and now at St. Madeline Sophie.  She has taught in grades 1 – 12 in multiple subjects.  While at Eastside Catholic, she was honored as a Teacher of the Year and also received a Fulcrum Foundation Grant for the creation of  9th grade course that combined history and art as well as partnered with theology so that students developed a deeper, more integrated understanding of the Catholic faith and Western  historical tradition.

Mrs. Nau has a BA in History from Seattle U and a Masters from Gonzaga as well as many additional credit hours of work in writing instruction, educational technology and art.  She has also taught professional development courses for the Seattle Archdiocese, served on the Archdiocesan Technology Committee, was a department chair and curriculum lead and received additional grants over the years for educational technology and art.

In 2011-12 Mrs. Nau expanded her educational experience by joining St. Madeline Sophie and Mrs. Huley for a delightful year in PreK.  Fun as that was, she is excited to be joining the Middle School team and sharing her enthusiasm for history and literature with her students.

Beyond school, Mrs. Nau and her husband enjoy reading, exploring bookstores, canoeing and traveling, especially to visit their new grandson in Chicago. (Good news, another grandson is on the way here in Seattle!) Additionally she enjoys walking, running, art, skiing and soccer.  She is also at work reviving her sewing skills for the benefit of her new role as grandmother.

 

Angela Ensminger     EMAIL

Angela Ensminger grew up in Texas and moved to Washington state in
1998. She graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a
Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. She also holds a Master of
Science in Mathematics with a specialization in Statistics from the
University of Texas at Dallas. After serving on the feasibility
committee for SMS school, she went back to school to become certified
to teach in Washington.

Angela has worked at St. Madeleine Sophie as the Coordinator for
Elementary Whole Community Catechesis on Wednesday evenings. This
year, Angela rejoins the school staff as the Math Specialist. She looks
forward to sharing her love and excitement of mathematics with the
students again.

Angela looks forward to joining her daughter at St. Madeleine
Sophie School. She enjoys cooking, traveling and geocaching in her
spare time.

Judy Odell      EMAIL

A true believer in life-long learning and sharing in all sorts of topics as well as the wonderful uniqueness of each student, Judy is in charge of the incredible 7th grade homeroom and she instructs our students grades 5-8 for language arts and literature.


Before SMS, Judy taught for over 30 years in subjects ranging from home economics, to English and then on to computer technology, video making and accounting. After receiving her Master’s Degree, she expanded her middle and high school career by becoming a certificated staff member with Seattle Pacific University, a ParaPro instructor for her district’s employees and a curriculum developer for Skagit Valley’s Tech-Prep Consortium.

Her leisure time is spiced up with adventures in food, music and traveling. (She’s also known to enjoy trivia swapping with her SMS colleagues!)

Rick Houser  - PE     EMAIL

Rick is a veteran Washington State certificated teacher. He taught 5/6 grade in the Issaquah School District for 10 years. He also taught at Issaquah HS for 15 years, teaching English, Spanish and PE.   Rick then moved to Eastside Catholic for 4 years, managing the bookstore and teaching English. In addition, he taught 2 years in the Lake Washington School District in their Homeschool Program.

Rick enjoys his special relationship with his loving wife (Marilyn), their wonderful daughter (Lisa) and two great grand children (David & Makayla). They have been members of St. Madeleine Sophie Parish since around 1971.

Sherri McCarthy - MUSIC     EMAIL

Sherri McCarthy grew up in the Bay Area of San Francisco, attending Holy Angels School and Mercy High School, and then flew north to graduate with honors from Seattle University. She fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and never left! She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Language Arts, minoring in Math/Science and Music.

Since then Sherri's taught twelve years in the elementary grades 1st through 5th, and ten years of music PreK through 8th. She did her post-graduate studies in Language Arts at SPU. She's excited to share her love of learning with the students at SMS.

When she's not singing, going to the theater, or reading, she's probably playing a game with her family and friends (Cranium, anyone?), or quilting!

Kristin Earnst - ART     EMAIL

Kristin’s focus when teaching art is to develop her students’ confidence in their abilities to experiment responsibly, to discover the properties of the materials artists use, and to solve problems that arise as they work to express themselves visually. She began teaching art in 2002 at Bellevue’s Jewish Day School and now teaches art at both St. Anne School in Seattle and St. Madeleine Sophie School.

Prior to teaching art, Kristin taught English for eleven years at Eastside Catholic High School. She was surprised and delighted to find that the children of some of her ECHS students are now her students at SMS.

Kristin earned a BA in English (with college honors, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) at the University of Washington; she also earned her teaching credentials through the UW. A childhood in a Navy family kept Kristin moving to several cities in California, to Subic Bay in the Philippines, Midway Island, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Seattle. By unanimous decision, the family moved back to Seattle upon her father’s retirement, and she has nested here ever since.

 

Martine Romero - Inclusion Specialist     EMAIL

Martine Romero was raised in Venice California were she attended St. Mark Catholic Elementary School and Notre Dame Academy. She is a recent graduate from Gonzaga University in Spokane. Martine received her Washington State teaching certificate and her B.A. in Special Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. She also received an additional certificate in Organizational Leadership Studies, and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society. Martine loves spending time with family and friends at the beach and watching sports. Go Zags!

Jessica Turpin - Inclusion Specialist     EMAIL

Jessica Turpin grew up in Olympia, Washington where she graduated from Capital High School in 2002. Over the next four years she developed her interest in education working with the youth division of Olympia Parks and Recreation as a counselor and activities planner. She graduated from Gonzaga University in 2006 where she majored in History and Teacher Education. She spent her first year teaching on the Whiteriver Apache reservation in Arizona. There she taught Reading, Social Studies, and Math to 7th and 8th graders. She also coached volleyball, basketball, and track at Alchesay High School. Most recently she has been a long-term substitute in the Shelton, WA School District.

Jessica loves running, reading, and spending time with her friends and family, and hopes to learn how to cook someday!  Ms. Turpin believes there is something to be learned from every student she works with. She's excited to be joining the Inclusion Team and the entire staff at the St. Madeleine Sophie School.

Dan is nearing his thirtieth year in education in Washington State.  During the bulk of that time, he has held numerous teaching, coaching and administrative positions in the Seattle Archdiocese.  His longest tenure was at St. John School in Seattle where he was principal from 1984-1999.  During that term, he was also elected regional representative to the Department of Elementary Schools Executive Committee for the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) located in Washington D.C. and was a delegate to the NCEA’s National Congress on Catholic Schools for the 21st Century and its follow-up convocations.  He is a 1993 graduate of the NCEA Principals’ Academy and in 1999 was honored as Distinguished Catholic School Graduate.  From 1999-2004 he served as Executive Director for the Washington Federation of Independent Schools (WFIS), our state’s umbrella public policy voice for private schools and advocate at the state and national levels.  Dan holds a B.A. in Biology from Western Washington University and a M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Seattle University.

His joy in life is sharing any free time possible with his wife, Mary, Principal at St. Anne School in Seattle and their four adult children (each a product of Catholic schools, K-16), their wonderful daughter-in-law, Leanna and grandaughters, Kristine and Adalyn.

Holly Cole joined the SMS staff in March 2005.  As manager of the school office, she is our daily source of all sanity!

Holly comes to us from the City of Seattle's Human Resources Department where she served as Personnel Specialist and Accomodations Coordinator.  Previously, she spent ten years as office coordinator at St. Anne School in Seattle. Before moving to Seattle, she was Personnel Director for a department store chain in Southern California.

At St. Anne’s Parish, Holly was active on a number of school committees; she chaired the School Commission and served as Parents’ Club President. She is currently a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Seattle and serves on their Pastoral Council.

Holly holds a BA in sociology from California State University, Los Angeles with additional graduate work in Special Education.  She lists reading, music and hiking as favorite interests.

Karen Pasqualetto  (8/31/70 - 7/28/08)

Information on Karen's brief time with us.

Karen Pasqualetto is originally from California and relocated to Washington in 2004.

In California she used her law degree from the University of the Pacific to build technology companies and founded her own consulting firm. For career "Number Two" she pursued teaching and finally found her calling. Karen taught sixth grade at St. Elizabeth School in Oakland.

Karen's favorite floppy-eared friend is Alex the mini-dachshund. International travel is at the top of list of favorite activities. Her husband Chris works in business continuity for the Starbucks Corporation and both try to get away on trips as much as possible.

Karen went to Catholic schools through 12th grade and considers faith and morality important components of educating our youth.
